Seisia is accessible by land by 4WD, air or sea.
Seisia is approximately 28 km from the northernmost point of Australia, the Tip of Cape York. As you can see by the map, we are located in the most northern region of Queensland, right at the tip of Australia.
The drive from Cairns is approximately 1,000km, with only the first 300km being on a sealed bitumen road. A great adventure can be had with this part of the holiday alone. In the early part of the year April – June you may encounter several ‘washouts’ on your journey. However, when the school holidays arrive, you will find the number of vehicles on the ‘track’ will increase, as will the corrugation. For many, getting there is just the start of a lifetime experience, very few ever forget.
Below you will find a mode of transport to suit every person’s time frame and comfort requirements. Also included is information on accommodation which we can arrange if you so choose.
Rex Airlines – Departs Cairns domestic Terminal 10.30 am arriving Bamaga airport 12.30 pm every day except Saturday. This service is the most direct, we’ll pick you up at Bamaga airport upon arrival.
Qantas – Departs from Cairns Domestic Terminal to Horn Island, twice a day 7 days a week. A short ferry trip will take you to Thursday Island. Here you have a few hours of site seeing on a truly historic Island, before boarding the Peddells Ferry at 2.30 pm for a 1hr trip direct to Seisia Wharf. where we will meet you and take you to your accommodation.
Seaswift – the Trinity Bay, which is our cargo carrier, departs Cairns once a week and accommodates a variety of cabin layouts for up to 44 people. you arrive at Thursday Island. The final destination of Seisia Wharf is reached two and a half days later A terrific way to relax before a week of fishing.
Seisia Resort and Campground – can cater for all budgets. You have the choice of an air-conditioned fully self-contained 6 person villa, of which 3 are beachfront. There is the ‘Lodge’, which provides 6 rooms, each with 2 single beds, a wardrobe, bar fridge and has air-conditioning. Shared facilities and finally there is the option of camping. Both powered and non-powered sites are available, with fantastic views of both the water and Islands in the region.
Resort Bamaga – is a 4-star facility offering a fully licensed ‘a la carte’ restaurant. Rooms range from twin/double to suites; all are air-conditioned with en-suite facilities. The Resort also has the only private in-ground swimming pool in the area. Bamaga is located 5.5 km inland from Seisia.
